Bwing Party One - Level 2

We were all set to go on a Buffalo Wings (Bwing) party on Friday night! But were still pitifully trying to find friends to go on this quest with us during the day :D

Twas a tough seach, cos it was soooooo last minute! But we found some like minders who didnt mind the impromptu date :)

The participants :) 6's the BEST number to go to this party, cos they serve in 1/2 or full dozen. If u want to complete the quest till the 35th level, and hence own a stake on the billboard of honor, u need to eat minimal of each level :) We started with level 2 again cos we had *er hemz* amateurs with us! :p

The date I brought along, Ms Ong. We almost went on a solo date together cos both the boyfrens were working OT on a Friday night ^_^

Twas such a coincidence she asked me out to dinner a short while after N told me he had to work late tt night. I laughed cos I knew her bf was working late tt night too! I actually asked Dia to the Bwing party but she had work to complete tt night. London times really kill ppl eh? Coincidentally, Dia and Ms Ong's bf are collics!!

And I was still musing over Dia and my lunch date's shock over our 20-year friendship :D we have so much to share! and now, I m even acquainted with her collic! haha! The lunch date is also a friend we got to know yeaaaaars ago at some part time job which both of us got together! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. how often do u get selected to work the same part time job with ur fren??!

He arrived @ 10ish-11. And we saved 2 wings for him :) Verdict - wings still tasted good even after being in the open air for at least an hour!

We really need to plan such outings a little earlier next time. Save us from getting into frantic situations of getting people soooo last minute!

Then again, that's the thrill aint it?

Random T.G.I.F

So I ended last week's TGIF post with a snapshot of 2 of my favorite friends. We had a lot to catch up on and barely managed to squeeze out some brunch time for each other finally! Now that all of us have so many commitment in life, it makes tiny little efforts aimed at some friendship maintenance count a whole lot more!

Wild Honey was all packed, and we waited a good 45 minutes to get a seat.Apart from the good English breakfast, the best part was the good companionship..

We ve clinched another rare date with each other. This time, picnic with the boys! And I will be bringing my 2 boys along - the big 2 legged one and the tiny 4 legged one :D :D

Got laughed at cos I excitedly suggested getting it down filth and dirt with an army cannister for the picnic. Picnics are supposed to be done with wines, grapes, croissants, tarts, nachos and blah blah. But N & my idea of a picnic is completely the opposite! Man! are we weird?! instead of doing it the atas way, we do it the mud and dirt way with a cannister! and we cook our food right on the spot!

Man! do we miss the Miyashitas or what. They are really the most spontaneous supporters of some of our wildest and weirdest ideas!

And on another occassion in Dec 2008, we did the picnic again. The food got more interesting this time....

we made a beef lasagne!!! So, I m going to insist on bringing our cannister along this time round.. :D and try picnic styles in both our simple and their atas way :)

Just got bobbed and banged yesterday. Ivy's by far my personal bestest stylist so far and has helped me change hairstyles alot of times. I like her BEST! cant wait to show the bf tonight :) and we are going to go on a buffalo wings quest right here!

Our Story - Home Sweet Home

I hadnt pen down in writings how we got our 1st home :D It was an unplanned one, very impromptu. Unlike most couples who sit down and plan their future together, we were not even talking about getting married or getting a house yet. If there were any hints dropped *GIRLSS LISTEN UP!! Tips to getting your DIAMOND RING!!**, it was just a mere finger baring..

2) Wash his underwear while u are on a trip together;
3) Pour him a glass of water;
4) Be a sweetie pot pie girlfriend and cook for him;
5) etc etc

Show him your 10 BARE fingers!!! Who is he to demand all these even before you rightfully belong to him??! :D

So that's about all I did...innocent playful stunt :) And I still dont do the above after getting my ring la :D

And, I knew his finances well enough to know tt a ring wouldnt come so soon then...

The worst that any woman can expect to happen, is to fall into the 'Singaporean Marriage Trap'. That of borrowing her IC to bid for a flat -.- *yawnsss* boring... even before he proposes.

A normal BTO takes about 5 years to build. And with the overwhelming demand for each launch, not all bidders get to buy a flat during their 1st few bids..

How about this for some stats: The 188 four—room units in Limbang Green received nearly 2,700 applications, and 458 units in Buangkok Vale received 2608 applications — six times more than units available. - source: yahoo news

So in name of practicality, most couples will have to bid for a flat 5 years or more before their desired wedding date. And at that point in life, most guys probably wouldnt have the $$ to get a decent ring...so most women end up signing the deed of their finances AND life to the house and the man respectively.. and when u get to that stage, the proposal just become an expected event that is going to happen soon.. and you just got to settle for whatever is the stone size available when it happens.. Already bought a house, you think u still can say no meh?! Proposals become unromantic and perhaps sloppy... :( this is the 'singapore marriage trap'...

Alternatively, u can seek resale flats and pay the ridiculously exhorbitant S$40k for the COV in COLD HARD CASH now. and they are not even brand new..

I must say, for my case, it is entirely similar yet different from the Marriage Trap.. cos mine was totally unplanned! yet it is so similar cos I got my ring much later...

Remember I had a caver-ful of newly proposed girls? I stole a tip or two on house buying from them while sitting in office almost 24-7 a week with these lovely noise makers. And I did casually ask my cousin the procedure in getting a flat cos I figured I have to know it one day. But all casual. No talks about wedding yet.

And all I know, from then and till now, about flat buying are these:
1) Sign up at HDB website for mailers on new launches
2) Pay S$10 to bid for each BTO

The ONLY time N&I ever talked about getting a flat, was when he sent me an sms like this one morning:
"Punggol got build to order. I apply for fun?" - sent by Nigel on 8 April 2009 10:56am

I said ok and he went ahead to pay S$10 for the bidding. nothing happened thereafter. and we also didnt talk about it.

...2 weeks later...
On 15 April (Wed), cousin got an email from Sim Lian about their Parc Lumiere launch the following tuesday (21 Apr). But they were going to hold a showflat openhouse for public viewing from 18 April (Sat). Apparently, she signed up with Sim Lian mailing list cos she was interested in getting a flat from them.

Being the nice cousin she is, she told me about it. And I told N about it. We decided to go and take a look over the weekend. For fun.

On that friday, I suddenly got a call from cousin early in the morning. Her parents-in-law drove past the area and found people already queuing up!! And they heard that Sim Lian might open up the sales booth if the response is overwhelming!!

N&I briefly discussed and agreed that this was going to be OUR flat :) the timing was simply perfect!

Several callssssss and smsessssss were exchanged between me, cousin, mum, dad, nigel, nigel's mum, nigel's dad, cousin's parents-in-law.

AND...

Thankful we got cousin's parents-in-law to get us a queue number! They were already there to queue for my cousin and her hubby before we decided to take a queue number too! It took us 16 couple queuers' timing to make that decision. They were #18 and we were #33 :D We might even have made it to the news on TV cos we were seated right in front.

With that, both our mums and dads were already making some arrangements and on their way to take over our queue and to participate in our 1st house buying experience :)

Within that morning, we had to get our 15 months of CPF contributions, past 12 months' pay slips from the HR/finance (all must be stamped certified true copy) and photocopy our IC. All these take a lot of time especially if u r working in a big organisation like mine. So I got mine some time after lunch...

I left the office around mid afternoon after surprising everybody tt I just made an impromptu decision to go and queue for my flat :D

Twas a long wait.. an overnight one...

luckily we had an army of people who came down with us :) most of our family members came down to witness this sacred moment with us :) :) the Miyashitas also came down to share this special moment with us.. :) :) All thanks to these great people for taking time off and making an effort for us, we feel very very blessed :)

But it got late and we told them to go back, leaving cuz, cuz-in-law, me and N to spend the loooong night together.

We had much to do that night. Plowing thru the catalog and the prices for each individual unit and then working out our finances and choosing our top 30 units. Cousin and I tried to make our 1st few choices as near to each other as possible :D

we are proud owners to a home sweet home since 18 Apr 2009 :)

It took us a few hours to decide Parc Lumiere was going to be our 1st flat. And a night to decide which unit we heart best!

I remember going back to the cave on Monday morning to the same house search failure chatter and I just blurted, "I got my flat already!" *haha*

Unbelievable??!! This is normal! :) Perhaps I ll even surprise myself with our wedding plannings.. :D

Fiery Yummers!

Fiery Yummers 1 - Chilli Padi (near Kent Ridge Hall, NUS)

We woke up bright and early on Sat morning for some bike trainings before scooting off to a baby shower. These days, N's friends are all hosting baby showers while my friends are all having wedding bells! :) Then twas off to N's family dinner @ CHILLI PADI! more pics below :)

We got bored after dinner and called up a coupla friends for some mahjong entertainment before we found WHO? but my dear old cuz and cuz-in-law, who was willing to entertain our impromptu request and graciously housed us and taught us some mahjong! :D N got hooked onto the game after spending some time in bunk with reservice mates for 2 whole weeks! And now got me slightly interested as well!! *new hobby! heh heh*

Did I ever ever mention tt me and cuz are going to be neighboursss??? :D we already made plans to buy a mahjong set over Sat's game! :) :)

A Fun One - 2010

The FIRST event that will kick start our 2010! A Zoo run! :)

Mark your calendars! It's happening on 6 Feb 2010 (Sat) 330pm :) Distance: only 6.2km!! :) so verry verrry achievable!

And we get to run within the Zoo AND the Night Safari!! It will make the run a whole lot more fun than it is :) tigers, elephants, giraffe, penguin.... instead of lamppost, dustbin, lamppost, dustbin... :D

Here's a map of the route :) :) The run was actually organised in memory of our beloved Ah Meng..

Registrations have been extended till 24th Jan 2010.

Our story - how we really met

Whenever people ask me how I met my boyfriend, my default answer is always 'blading'. It's really true how the sport created the opportunities for us to hang out together, understand each other better and to *er hemz* let him have the chance to woo me ;p though he likes to tell people that it is the other way round. But, you guys know the story :) cos i m telling it first :)

My default answer came about due to a recency effect theory whereby the mind remembers the most recent events tt happen - Given a list of items to remember, we will tend to remember the last few things more than those things in the middle. We also tend to assume that items at the end of the list are of greater importance or significance.

A good analogy is if u played very good golf all your life and hence got a lot of sponsorship loves from famous brands and had a lot of ardent fans, everything becomes history the moment ur sex scandal with some flirty girls make it to the tabloids. People now remember u as the good shooter on bed no matter how good u are on the greens.

So we blade at ECP often and intensively enough after our 1st encounter with each other, blading seemed like the perfect answer to the question.

But how we really met was *ok this is very cliche and boring* through a friend! :) And perhaps to make it a little less boring, we also met through a song! :)

I think the original intention of our friend, Elwyn, was to introduce his then single friend-cum-neighbor, N, to some girls. The 3 of us (below) who were hanging out quite a bit with Elwyn since those Uni days naturally became his targets. But I think the intended recipient wasn't really me cos I wasnt the 1st to meet Nigel. Or maybe it's just tt I wasnt free on those occassions that they decided to go out.

Well anyway, spare the details and I cant remember. Thing is, N has been hearing alot about me from them. And I have also been hearing about him from them too.

Soon, it was Elwyn's birthday. And the good friend, N, decided to be a nice chap to burn him a CD. This was going to be the most unique CD and the bestest birthday present ever! Cos we, the 3 of us (below), were going to sing him his favorite song. And N was going to be the pianist.

So N gathered us at the music shop tt he was working in then to do the recording. That was how we reallly 1st met. The 1st time he got to see the legendary Shwu. And I m not going to say this the other way round cos I still think N had an ulterior motive for gathering the ladies to cut the album for Elwyn. 3 years into our relationship, I have never seen him organise a birthday gathering, buy a birthday gift, send a birthday card or sms to Elwyn ever again. And I dont think he even remembers when is his birthday. If u hadnt already read, let me remind u tt they are neighbours too!

So now u see how scheming N was in trying to meet his legendary lady? ;p I think he must have stalked me on my friendster or something during those days before we even met...

So, we cut an album. It was hilariously lousy but I dont mind sharing it on this space if I know how to add an MP3 here.. :( was just listening to it yesterday and found myself laughing to it..

Anyway, here is the album cover tt N painstakingly printed and cut out from the pictures he took on the birthday picnic celeb. I tell u, this N bought a new Olympus for our dive trips and his camera doesnt even get to see light unless we are on dive trips. But he brought his camera along during the fort canning picnic..

Since the CD could only be ready after the picnic, we passed Elwyn the surprise birthday gift LIVE. N brought his Taylor baby and was our guitarist for the day. The CD was burned much later after he got my.. i mean our pictures.

I was in a baking streak then, so made some chocolate truffles with little colorful chocodrops as decor. We played around with the decors and created our own names on the truffles..
