Feeling Accomplished

for having travelled down to the weeeeeesssst to repair Cornell, sneaking off for a swim and a superb lunch of Sambal over deeeep fried crispy fish, before picking up Cornell again.. :)
thereafter stealing a snooze for 1.5 hr and it was off to ECP for a jog :) :) kinda pittered pattered a lil on the way there... luckily it stopped as we were approaching East Coast :) :)

on-the-way-grin, refreshed from the snooze... the one beside was a slight bit sleepy cos of the even moooore accomplished day from accompanying me around and gg back to work during my snooze hrs :P

Headed to Old Changi Road for dinner. And guess what the darling mate ordered??? orrrr lua! Since the both of us dislike orrr, we usually eat it without orrr. So normally, we order orrr lua without orrr. Today?? The cheeky mate went to order orr lua with TWO orrr. i think the uncle fainted laughing.

Our orrr lua.

Our orrr lua close up shot to see uncle's scribbling. the O written means the orrr. so it says no orrr on the right. However, i think the cheeky mate FINALLY (considering how long we ve been ordering tt) decided that orr lua without orrr is funny or juz decided 2b cute, so has decided to add TWO orrr to our orrr lua, one for each of us.
Swimometer : 14 laps (bt nt real olympic laps)
joggometer: 4-4.8km (arguable, and nt confirmed wil we revisit the grounds again) Time: 35 min
Feels: SUPER Accomplished!!!!! :)
Oh ya, sidetrack...before it gets forgotton. Yuen Yang @ Srgn Gdns offers reaaaaaaaaly gooooooooooooood services! Its a HK/Macau restaurant tts juz newly opened, and N & I decided to pop in for dinner last night. we ordered a platter for S$9.90 on top of our own main dish *how not to get fat* anyway the platter includes calamari, nuggets, wings and scallops. for a deal of S$9.90, we had expected something more than 3 pcs of everything. So when the platter arrived with 3 calamaries, 3 nuggets, 3 mid-portion wings and 3 scallops, N&I were like "HUH???? S$9.90 and so little?????"
As the waitresses were hovering ard us, i dunno why they seemed to be JUST ard us, most of the time (prolly cos we were one o e few customers inside la). So N decided to make a comment n asked the waitress abt it.
N, " Is this all for our platter??"
Waitress, "Errr, yes. Why? Whats wrong?"
N, " orrrr... no la.. jus thot its abit too little for S$9.9. We expected sthg more. But it's ok... :) jus asking :) :) "
**END of conversation** and i also smiled at the waitress to tell her it was ok :) :)
who knows halfway thru our meal, the AM came by the table w a plate of 1 calamari, 1 nugget, 1 wing and 1 scallop!!!!! we were TOUCHED beyond wordssss!! :P :)
I am reallllie a satisfied customer nw and i wana rave abt this place!!! the food there is qt nice too! i had the baked pork cutlet spagetti w YY sauce and it was YUMMMY!! nt v ex too.. abt S$7-8 for a huge portion :) I was bloated till cldn walk at all! pls DO go n try!

My Nutella Swirl

i guess i was toooo excited over getting to bake the NUTELLA swirl today (I ve always fancied hazelnut-anything) :) because i woke up wayyyy earlier than my alarm @ 650AM. had a hard time drifting to slumberland last night as well.. so i was practically tossing and turning the whole night, as far as i can remember, until the alarm rang.

went for bf w da family n went flour shopping. bot a TOP FLOUR bcos cldn find all purpose flour at the mart. luckily the TOP FLOUR reallie proved 2b top grade flour. bcos the cake was v soft n fluffy :)

here's the process:

from left to right

TOP ROW: now u c it - a piece o banana n sm choco chips. nw u dun!. topped w nutella.

MIDDLE ROW: swirled nutella (qt badly swirled). baking. result (looks like ROCK cake tho!! HA)

BOTTOM ROW: fluffy cake (u c hw soft n fluffy the texture is??). showing a lil bit o nutella (more of it next time ;P). my ROCKS (sigh.. it looked nothing like the pic i got from the net) -->

look at the comparison:MINE: the swirls were hidden into the the cake, n wats left on top hardened during during the bake process (but wat went deep into the cake remained creamy ;)) juz tt the top didn look as appetising n there shd be moooore nutella (next time)

HERS: the swirls were cleverly left unmixed or only partially mixed. hence, they were left looking thick n creamy at the top as it is more difficult to harden during the bake process n thus looks more appetising

Hopefully the grandma likes them :)

How do these nutella swirl cupcakes look to u???? ;P

or these truffles filled cupcakes??

they look irresistable to me! and so, they shall be the next mission :) starting.....TOMORROW!!

oooh.... how lucky are the loved ones... :)

was ALL READY to make the nutella swirl cos i had ALL the ingredients! but upon assembling the ingredients, we realised, to our shock, horror and dismay, that our PLAIN flour had expired :(

so i m back in front o the comp *hrmph*

There r a list of thingssss i wana buy to add on to e lil bakery at home.. like the frosting tools, cupcake moulds, cupcake stand (so tt i can use it for tea parties) etc etc. but i ve limited myself 2 ONE toy per mth.. :)

watch this space!

of the bruised cartilage and food mania

I need these right NOW.. it's the cream advertised on TV in which the trishaw uncle used when he had a knee pain while riding 2 fat-ass passengers. He sped off at rocket speed after applying these.
Saturday's (16th June) Makansutra
Longhouse
Biiiiiiiiggggg Prawn Mee @ Longhouse, Upper Thompson. The mee tasted super authentic. Like the kinda mee i tasted when i was younger. The kinda mee taste i like in my prawn mee. :) and the prawns are huuuuuge!! *Slurpz*
S$4 for a bowl like this and 6-7 more of such prawns. *thumbsss up*

Buckaroos

- where e buckaroos in the pockets reallie went to...

a dine and wine place hidden amidst the landed properties in Sembawang, this western food place has been recommended by some close frens and colleagues. so we decided to giv it a shot :) a little pricey tho... but i ll definitely go back for the soup, served in a bun :) (shall make it myself one o these days!)

the duo combo BBQ grilled half chicken and pork ribs, served with salad and wedges. other than the special garlic sauce used for the salad (and not the usual thousand island) and the QUITE generous serving of wedges, I found nth too special in the grill which tasted almost similar to other grills u can get frm places like cartel etcetra. A plate like this cost S$32.90 - pricey yeah? I opt for cartel. Anytime.

the onion rings looked grrreat too! served ring on top of ring in a pole (the pole looked like something used to hold the huge tissue wipe we use in the kitchen). The table behind us had one serving of pole after another. so i think it is quite NOT BAD.. But we were tooo full to consume anymore food. so shall save it for next time :)

I love exploring new munchy places ard our tiny red dot :)
Dining Dates with no places in mind YET:
1) Celebration de la Dt MCYS Team for the good work well delivered to partner Toh :)
2) Celebration de la Diz with NTU mates
oh please! bring me to new places!! :)
any good suggestion anyone???!!!!!
wana try Carnacles @ Sentosa too..bt its a tad bit ex... review was S$90-100 per pax... so this shall wait.... till July??! :)

Poor damsel and Further into the nitez...

the damsel frm last nite is realllie a damsel in multiple distress today.
vehicle broke down, lappy's battery nt well connected, hp bluetooth set nt wrking, NEW sim card nt wrkg...

luckily for this damsel, there r 2 numbers serving the sim card.. the older number stil wrks...

finale of last night didn end w the rescue wrk. It was the loooong conversation re-ignited aft i was sent near home :) I was in a chirpy mood last nite.. heh

so my nite continued with a bottle of orange (slightly fizzy) 5% alc thingy from a 7-11 off upp srgn road, paid for after a man who bot a pack of condoms n who talked v loudly to his china-fun-for-the-nite lady with verrrrrrry exposed boobs. they were like, THERE, when i turned to look at the owner of the pack of Condoms on the counter.. *EEEWWWW* they disappeared into the Hotel 81 beside the 7-11 thereafter.

truckloads of conversation exchanged...

off to Changi to beow ah guas :) didn see alot leh...

another loadful of conversation....

then i got hungry, AGAIN, n downed an egg prata with teh tarik. the prata was YUMMMMY!!!! n there s also a kopitiam selling HOTSTONES alike dishes, using the same hotstones! (Let's re visit there again shall we?? Wana giv those a try. They shd definitely be a better deal than the pricey HOTSTONES at Clarke's)

loads of words exchanged while chomping down the prata... was shooooed off bcos prata mate felt the oil in the air..

tummy satisfied n got shoo-ed, we left for home. it was 3+ am and the driver was toooo sleepy, we had to catch a wink at Ponggol Park b4 waking up at 4+ am to head for home.. :)

HA. the events tt happened aft the girls got home n tucked under the covers...

rain rain go away... i wana do something sunny today..

^Hooters^ Nitez out

*weeeet* *weeeeeet*

we were here last night! :)
salivate over the big breasted girls (verrrrrrry evident from the pic) in HOT shots. that s all they can boast about.. the big bust.. bcos we spotted slightly inflated floats above those shorrrrrrrrrt shorts and cldn spot annnnny bums at all! and not to mention tt some of them speak with a loud chirpy voice, almost alike to a screech. Ouch.

Overall grade: B

a fuller bossom and no floats wld get an A- frm me. Less the screechy voice wld b an A :)

oh ya...no VPL under some of the super mini n thin fabrics over the bossoms tho...leaves ur thoughts wandering... G strings, or none? :)

i guess girls are abt as hum sup as the guys :)

N was saying the Aussie Hooter Girls wear bikinis and do striptease! and they all have fabulous figures!

was there to celeb Diz bdae

Bdae girl @ Waraku Central (which allowed us to bring outside cake, so we chose it over Sun and Moon Central)

the 2nd attempt cheese fruit flan (the kiwi at home got eaten up. I had to buy snm strawberries, also used to make a Fondue @ Fri tea break)

Green Tea Clam shell ice cream. 5 of us shared ONE cos we stil had to down a cake :) waitress was like, "ONE??" :)

Finale of the night was when we had to pop by blue liquid bar to save a damsel in smoky distress :)

Simple Fondue Fare. Clockwise from top left: Chocolate dip, Strawberries, Marshmellows

Dip Recipe?

An agaration of chocolate chips (from emergency brownie/muffin stock up), melted

An agaration of fresh milk (I use Farmhouse, cos we drink happened 2b drinking tt milk)

With loads of stirring

the whole process is v similar to the DIY chocolate drink (so u juz add chips and milk to ur personal preferrence) at the choco restaurant (forgot the name) @ lvl 1 of esplanade, which cost S$9 ++ bucks

and there! u hav a dip (at lower cost). BEST served HOT :) we managed to gobble up everything b4 the choco cld harden back ;p

==TOIL makes the kitchen a playhouse :)==

wana increase joggometer later but having a pain in the knee nw :(

stupid cornell died on me earlier.. the spring flew out while i was putting the whisk onto the stand.. :(

now i gotta make a trip to THYE HONG CENTRE... Alllllllll the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in the wesssssssst in redhill!!!! *grunts*

lesson learnt - 1) always buy appliances tt has there svc centre somewhere near u.. grrrrr 2) always extend ur warranty if the distributor offers this svc..cos u nv know hw pok some NEW appliance can b.. i expect the fragile spring to pop a coupla times and can alr imagin myself a familiar face @ THYE HONG that they d offer me a different model o whisk FREE OF CHARGE**hiak hiak**

no jog today bcos something's bubbling :)

Something's bubbling in the kitchen...

Watch this SPACE..

Where 1.5 hrs of my life went to last sunday (10 June 2007)...

personal faves : the 2 white choco coated with dark choco strips ones on top right of box and apple cinnamon on bottom left

I dun mind spending more 1.5 hrs to get those again.. :)

Fruit Flan Cheesecake - 12 June 2007

Today's creation was THIS!!!! (see below)

But of course, being my first attempt at this kinda cake, the turnout wasn't so pro. That was a pic from the bake book I borrowed from the library..
a brief intro to the cake:
Bottom Layer - sponge cake
Middle Layer - Cheese cake
Third layer - topped with as mannnny fruits as you like and covered with Konnyaku (being the Lychee fanatic that I am, I chose Lychee as one of the fruit toppings and Lychee flavored Konnyaku. The latter being the reason why my cake was a flop.. :( , and I shall talk more abt it later) Let's start the happier beginning of my cheesey adventure today..
To start off.... a BRAND NEW CORNNELL electric whisk!! :) got it last saturday while i was at the Giants at tampines doing shopping for my picnic-cum-survival camp stuffs.. proceeded to the Courts beside it and saw the whisk beckonning to me :) so there it is! I got a whisk! :) putting it to work... that's my sponge cake layer..
the cheesecake layer... Baking is so WONDERFULOUSLYGREAT when u dun hav to do all the dirty work. Some new kitchen bake tools I have in mind as I watch the whisk do the whisking for me - 1) a mini fan that can attach to the baking tins so tt my bakes can cool faster without me having to fan it 2) a dishwasher. U can nv imagine the piles of dishesssssssssssss u have after a bake..grr
mini fruit flan with 3 layers, till the fruit layer
This pic is diff from the previous as it has a Lychee Konnyaku layer. But due to the transparent color, I guess u cant see it :)

The tin off, and (I think u aso cant see) the Konnyaku kindof toppled and dripped over the sides... owing to its heavy weight (compared to the bottom layers), it resulted in a wobbly cake which collapsed when it was cut.. :(

silly ole me got sooo excited over getting a LYCHEE ( words cant express how deep my affection to this fruit flavor is. It is juz the flavor I d go for in martinis, vodkas, packet drinks, jellies etc etc... u see the affection??) so, i was saying, i got soooo bloody excited over the Konnyaky flavor tt i misinterpreted the recipe. mayb not misinterpret. I could comprehend it pretty well.. I guess the lychee klutz worked its effects on me..

recipe read:

1 tbsp Konnyaku powder

40 g sugar

500 ml water

As my bake tin is uberly small, I had halved the proportion. and i smartly proclaimed "HEY! since my Konnyaku powder is alr flavoured, means noneed to add anymore sugar!! "Kudos my darling LYCHEE konnyaku flavor. and i proceeded to add 1/2 a tbsp of the powder to 250ml of water. U c why tt what went wrong recipe by nw??? I only realised after i poured in the konnyaku jelly over my cake :( :( :(

stil had some powder and lychee fruits left.. so i made some more Lychee Konnyaku with my candy maker moulds... I had sun, moon, star, pacifier, ducky, moo moo, chu chu train jellys :) tt made the day a bit happier...

my alphabet blocks jelly....

and then, it was off to the ECP for a marathon...

Joggometer:

Distance: 5-6 km (Fort road to BK, and back)

May and Jun

Nite Blading - 30 May
the lampposts seemed to move faster in the nitetime..
started off at BK, past the jetty and back to the food centre, where i got my ONE stick of satay for supper :) we had - anything, watever, chrysanthemun, vanilla-turned-lemon coke (bcos the chinalady din know what was vanilla) and sugar cane. it was funny seeing her ?? expression when we asked for VANILLA coke

US - "vanilla coke"
lady - (??? written all over the face) COKE?
US - "no aunty, VANILLA coke"
lady - ??? "coke?"
N - "xian cao ko wei de coke"
lady - "orrrrrr" but stil had the ?? look
....
..
..
.
lady - "so one vanilla, one coke........"
me - "no aunty, vanilla coke. one can."
lady - "orrrrr"
we wondered if she got it or not.. bt it was taking way tooo long to order one drink. so we went on to order our other drinks

US - "watever"
lady - (with a knowing look) "WATEVER!"
US - "anything"
lady - (with another knowing look) "ANYTHING!" :) :)

then she went off to take our drinks... and returned with a can of coke, with a piece of lemon in the cup of ice!! AHAHHAHA. that, was our vanilla coke :) :) :)

Mayday Concert - 2 Jun
Lucky N won a pair of concert tic and I was invited to go :)

Here's where the free tic got us seated, and naturally, there wasn much excitement from the ppl in this block.. and if there were any, he/she wld b easily identified. there was indeed one hardcore fan seated among us, and i was more amused watching her than i was with the band...cos she was jumping and dancing ard amidst the crowd, who was at most swaying their bodies.. ;P

This is what it looked like when the lights were dimmed...

we left b4 the encore part for teo chew porridge supper... 2nd time we postponed my dou jiang you tiao supper... :( can someone settle my crave sooooooon?????

first day of toil today n i ve been sick since fri!! hitting a temp of 38.1 yday :(
