HCM Day 4 - Walking Tour

We chanced upon this new hideout on Vesak day.
Smell another holiday yet?? :D
May has been FAB! But travelling consecutively can be tiring. Pack and unpack. Missing the little one. Not to mention my queer habit of daily travelogue updates. To the extent of deciding to skip Redang dive this June.

REDANG leh!!! The island alone is already verrrrrrry pretty! I am sure the underwaters will be even prettier! We told ourself to return next year, so next year it is :)

Day 4 of our free and easy day. No more day tours to sign up for. Armed with an A4 map we got from the hotel concierge and YP's doodling of the walking directions on the map from her Lonely Planet, we hit the streets. Of course, also armed with 1.5l of water (or more)

View from our hotel was quite splendid. It looks so pretty u have no idea how contrasting HOT it was.

Random sights on the streets. The Viets lifestyle.

Mobile stall owner. This tiny cart can be transformed into a kitchen along the pavement!

This cute dog was in the same position EVERYDAY. Think theres some living creature housed under the drainage.

Mode of transport. There are at least 4 million motorbikes in Viet!! If u have no bike, u have no girlfriend! :D

Different daily commutes

Random street sights

Fruits and rice sellers

We reached destination 1 - Vietnamese Opera House

There was a mixture of old, dirty buildings and the modern, clean buildings

Some were very obviously built during the french colonel days

Destination 2 - Revolutionary Museum

It was HOT and SUNNY. So we decided to go in there for a breather and maybe some aircon. Paid USD1 entrance fee. And no, there was no aircon. Only some ceiling fans. At least it gave us a shade.

There were at least 4 wedding couples inside taking photos. I snapped a nolstalgic photo for one of them.

Going to the backyard..

I was only interested in the Cuchi tunnel's history. An overview of the tunnel prototype.

And an old photo of a man inside the tunnel, digging.
These were the tools used to dig. *how amazing is that??!!* ALL by hands!

Destination 3 - Luncheon
We headed out for luncheon at a Lonely Planet's worthy. Food was great!! Ambience too! Restaurant details snapped and at the end. :)

A very smart concept. This restaurant is a central kitchen where all different kinds of street hawkers were employed to work in. So u can order all different kinds of good street foods here at a go. Cleaner kitchen, lesser efforts :) Isnt it great?

Our luncheon of the day. Dont look down on the claypot. It contains a rather yummy crab dang hoon!

And the details of this restaurant

Destination 4 - Notre Dam Cathedral

Destination 5 - Post Office
